Dr. Veronica Henry recently retired as the Chief Diversity Officer and Executive Assistant to the President at Farmingdale State College (SUNY). She served on the President’s Cabinet and was the liaison with SUNY System Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. She was responsible for the administration of all policies pertaining to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and implements special projects as assigned by the President. She attained the academic rank of Full Professor in the Department of Nursing, and served as Dean of the Long Island Educational Opportunity Center at Farmingdale State College. Most notably as dean of the LIEOC, Dr. Henry in collaboration with the Department of Nursing developed the LPN nursing program.
Dr. Henry started her educational experience at the Long Island Educational Opportunity Center and continued to earn an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Nursing at Farmingdale State College; Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Masters of Science Degree at Stony Brook University; Masters of Science in Nursing at Adelphi University; and Doctor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She has also completed Post-Doctoral Studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Education
Dr. Henry is the creator, leader and facilitator of the Farmingdale State College STEM Diversity Roundtable Conversations and Summit Program. The group was formed to advance diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education on Long Island. Dr. Henry’s article “Social Justice Through Community Outreach” was published by the Faculty Resource Network.
Dr. Henry is the recipient of many awards including, the Educator of the Year-Long Island Black Educators Association; Suffolk County’s Women of Distinction-Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre; One of Suffolk County’s Most Prominent African American Leaders-Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone and the Suffolk County African American Advisory Board-Suffolk County Office of Minority Affairs; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award; Citations for STEM Work from the New York State Governor’s Office, Citations from The New York State Senate and Citations from The New York State Assembly.
Most recently, Dr. Henry was the recipient of the “2017 INSIGHT Into Diversity Inspiring Leaders in STEM” Award. She was featured in the September 2017 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. She is also active in the community, with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Eastern Shore Chapter of the Links Inc., Long Island Partners of the America and the Rotary Club of Amityville.
